About the Breeds: Profiling Fusions

Flying H Genetics breeds five different types of cattle, using genetically enhanced expected progeny differences, or EPDs, and multitrait DNA analysis to ensure the animals you purchase are the exact breed for your needs. Today, let’s look at our Fusions, a breed unique to Flying H that incorporates the best traits of different pure breeds.

Fusion cattle are a mixture of three breeds – Angus, Gelbvieh and Simmental – with varying percentages of each. Typically, Fusion cattle are made up of approximately 50 percent Angus or Red Angus and 25 percent each of Gelbvieh and Simmental.

Fusion cattle are available in black or red and are supported by the breed association databases for genetic evaluation and predictions. They can also be registered in either Gelbvieh or Simmental associations since the same data is used to calculate the expected progeny differences in each.

While Fusion cows have an excellent track record, our experience tells us that Balancer and SimAngus buyers looking to increase genetic power and heterosis get the best results. Customers who purchased Balancers can use SimAngus to produce Fusion cattle themselves or vice-versa.

Flying H is always looking to improve the genetics offered to our clientele. The goal is to provide our customers with the best cattle and the traits they are looking for in an animal. Fusions are a new genetic result of our efforts, and provide our clients with a higher level of heterosis.

Flying H has produced high quality seed stock for nearly 70 years. Since 1948, the family’s objective has always been to provide customers with the best genetics possible. Flying H began genetic testing in 1968. In an effort to increase crossbred vigor and offer more genetic options and better cattle, Flying H introduced Gelbvieh and other breeds including hybrids as the years went on.

No matter what cattle you’re looking for, our mission is to provide the best products for our customers. This has always been the core of our mission and our promise to you. To learn more about any of our available breeds—purebreds or hybrids/composites – call us today at 308-962-6500.
